Former Paraguay manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto is set to take charge of Argentine top-flight club Velez Sarsfield, according to widespread media reports.

The 51-year-old agreed

to a two-year contract following several days of negotiations in Buenos Aires, news outlet TyC Sports reported.

It added that Barros Schelotto's backroom staff would include his brother, Gustavo, and Federico Insua.

Velez's head coaching role became vacant on Monday, when Sebastian Dominguez was sacked amid a poor run of results.

The Buenos Aires outfit is currently last in Group B of Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament with just five points from nine games. It marks a sharp reversal of fortunes for the club, which secured its 11th Argentine top-flight title in December.

Schelotto has been out of work since parting ways with Paraguay's national team in September 2023. His 13-year managerial career has also included spells at Lanus, Palermo, Boca Juniors and LA Galaxy.
